Mr. Blaney is a native Philadelphian, but spent most of his childhood in Cinnaminson, New Jersey. He graduated from Drexel University in 1994 receiving a Bachelor of Science in Business Management. He earned a law degree from Rutgers University School of Law at Camden in 1997. In law school, Mr. Blaney participated in the Wagner National Labor Law Moot Court on behalf of Rutgers University School of Law at Camden.
Mr. Blaney began his legal career as an Assistant City Solicitor with the City of Philadelphia where he practiced in the City’s special litigation and labor law units. His practice with the City of Philadelphia concentrated on labor relations and employment law matters for the City’s over 33,000 employees, including some 5,000 police officers. He has extensive experience in police internal affairs investigations and employment policies and procedure.
After leaving the City of Philadelphia, Mr. Blaney entered into private practice where he represents multiple employers in labor relations and employment law matters. His clients include both private sector and public sector employers. He currently represents and/or has represented over 30 New Jersey public entities including counties, municipalities, school boards, authorities and commissions. Much of his private practice involves labor relations and disciplinary matters related to police officers.
Mr. Blaney regularly handles complex litigation in State and Federal court. He represents both employers and employees in claims related to discrimination, retaliation, whistle blowing, sexual harassment, hostile work environments, and wage and hour issues. He also has extensive experience with appellate litigation. Mr. Blaney is licensed to practice law in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Court Circuit.
Mr. Blaney’s wife, Jennifer Blaney, works with disabled children as a one-on-one school aid. The couple has two daughters and reside in Washington Township, Gloucester County, New Jersey.
